Cafe Pomegranate
"......From grill cook to cashier, the staff clearly likes
working at the eclectic Mediterranean cafe, which
opened this summer just in time for the popular new
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library across the street. "
"....A vegetable and tofu kebab was particularly
impressive, because each ingredient came off the
grill cooked but retaining its personality. Even the
zucchini didn't turn to mush. Mahini softens and
marinates the vegetables in olive oil and balsamic
vinegar before grilling but does not parboil, which
leeches out flavor. If you ask, there may be a serving
of tadig, the wonderful buttery bottom crust of Persian
rice.
".....Types of food: Fresh Mediterranean entrees at
student prices, desserts and espresso.
Hits: Skewers of meat and vegetables, Persian rice,
roasted chicken, lentil salad.
Amenities: Cheerful dining room for 50 people.
Average meal price: Under $10"
